You and I share a great interest in our ancestors' service in the US Colored Troops. My research on my ancestor was stalled until I began to research Cornell University's "The War of the Rebellion: a Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies."

I searched for the officers associated with the service of my ancestor. Their names revealed information on my ancestor's regiments.

The most informative and focused collection on the service and history of the US Colored Troops are the Bennie McRae Archives. Although Mr. McRae has recently donated his archives and papers to Hampton University, you can still access them at the address directly below:
