Thank you for following up on this for me. I had forgotten about this query. I am not surprised that Mollie request was denied. I've seen this sort of thing before where the widow was convinced her spouse had served in the war but usually they cannot provide a specific regiment. I guess it's possible that he used a different name unknown to her. I'm still going to order the short package to get her application to see if it has any useful information.
