Thank you! After the War Department took over the former Arlington Plantation in May 1863 they opened Freedman's Village on 4 Dec 1863 to provide for the many former slaves that had come into the area. Freedman's Village provided shelter, clothing, food, medical care with a hospital located there, schools, and training in employable skills. (We could still use this now).
