I just received 114 pages of the Invalid's Pension and Widow's Pension of my 3gr uncle (gr gr grandfather's brother)and I am SO excited! From what I have read so far, his father (previously unknown) sent a deposition in his behalf and listed both his father's slaveowner and my uncle & his mother's slaveowner. I've read his story of how he was injured (accidently shot in the back while going up some stairs) and the "colored" family who took him in and nursed him back to health. His wife's sister's husband also submitted a deposition on his behalf as did numerous friends/neighbors each with another little piece of the puzzle. I wish ALL my relatives had fought in the Civil War!
