Re: John Pinckney (a.k.a. John Allston), USCT

I can't add to this particular name..yet..but I just got off of the research for Pinckney/Pinkney from SC. My confirmed connection is Henry bn abt 1843 NC, living in Johnston SC with wife, my grgrAunt Harriet Vance. That Pinckney name is spelled so many ways. I have original Obits from different ancestor's with the 'c', without the 'e' in the ney and it just get's me so confused. I have made connections with a family member of a well known singer with the Pinkney surname and the first thing the person I talked to said, that's not us because we don't spell our name that way. Well black folks didn't read or write in slavery. Sooooo what I am saying here is, I don't know anything about Henry as yet. He married Harriet about 1876 and the census gave his surname as PINKSTON on 1880. If it had not been for a Afrigeneas Angel who knew the area of research, helping me, I would really have been stuck. I feel Henry had other siblings but trying to connect the dots feels like an impossibility at this time because all would have been born before the 1870 census. His obit, died 16 Aug 1920, Johnston SC had no family names other than spouse on it. One other thing, contact the Edgefield Afro American Historical and Genealogy Society in SC. They did a lot to help me find ancestor's lost. I joined the Society and still benefit from research. I don't live anywhere near SC. North Carolina and South Carolina was one state at one time. You just never know.
