Re: Confederate African Americans?

I would like to repsond to the FOOTNOTE reference cited as "Confederate African Americans ~ Civil War" which infers the use of African Americans as "Soldiers" by the Confederate States of America (CSA) as similar to the use of USCT's (soldiers) by the United States government.

READING the actual field records/reports of the CSA leaves litle doubt that this simply was not the case. While there may have been individual cases of AA's acting as 'soldiers' on behalf of their masters during specific battles, in my opinion, it cannot be said that there was a wholesale recruitment and usage of AA's as soldiers by the CSA anywhere near that of USCT service (approx. 200,000).

It was asked "What are the consistencies/inconsistencies, historically, if any?"

This is the inconsistency in the FOOTNOTE references and the actual CSA field records that I see.

Just my point of view.
