Thank you for this information. It is a good resource. The Union Troop rosters reflect a number of former slaves. I've found several listed with Wisconsin units.

On another note, I have been trying to identify two of the four Confederate prisoners that were held in Camp Douglas. The four were Blacks in the Confederate Army and were released from Camp Douglas during the Civil War. Two went back South. The other two, the ones I'm trying to identify, stayed in Chicago. Camp Douglas was located near my house where I grew up in Chicago. The camp housed Confederate prisoners. Have you come across anything about it?
