150 Years Celebration of the Civil War

150 Years Celebration of the Civil War

It is a great time to be living as a genealogist, especially an African
American genealogist. We have celebrated the 200-year anniversary of
the Abolishment of the Atlantic Slave Trade in Europe and in American;
and, now we are going to celebrate the 150 years of the end of the
Civil War in 2015.

The State of Virginia has already started the kick-off of the Civil War
celebrations. In April 2009 at the University of Richmond in Richmond,
VA a “Signature Day Conference” kick-off of the eve of the Civil War
was presented. The program was fantastic. The University had the
latest technology (Podcast, internet Q&A ability, large flat screens
T.V to zoom in on the panelist, top notch speaker system and top notch
scholars on the Civil War. There were five panelists at each section,
there were four sections. Each panelist was an expert on the Civil
War. These scholars were instructed to talk only about the upcoming
Civil War in 1859. They talked from the present tense and mentioned
the activities and the disputes that were taken place in 1859.

Virginia is planning on hosting a series of conferences each year on
the Civil War up until 2015. Next year, the big conference will be in
Hampton Roads area in Virginia and it will deal with 1860. I will
provide additional information once details are finalized.

There are mini activities at
king place throughout Virginia and other
States. I will provide a calendar of events each month to this web
site.

This is a great opportunity for African Americans to get detail
information on the Civil War. Many of us can name ancestors who were
present at the time the Civil War took place. We all should try our
best to obtain as much information as possible during these enactment
years which will recreate the debates and tension that lead to the
Civil War.
