Maurice "Snookey" Reed.... Montford Marine Passes
The Obituary only states that Maurice "Snookey" Reed served in the Marine Corps, but it sholud be noted the "Snookey" was a proud Montford Point Marine who served his country in the South Pacific during WW II.
Snookey was a dynamic individual, a fellow Centralian, Alpha brother, community leader and a true friend. He will truly be missed.

REED, Maurice L. "Snookey" 85, of Springfield, made his journey home to the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 9 P.M. at the Springfield Regional Medical Center-Fountain Boulevard Campus. He was born January 3, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Charles and Verna (Thomas) Reed. Snookey came to Springfield in 1950 after graduating from Central State University with B.S. in Mathematics and Physical Science. He completed additional advance studies at various universities in computer programming, operations and analysis, logistics management, equal employment opportunity counseling, and parliamentary law. He retired from WPAFB and the City of Springfield as a computer programmer. Snookeys professional and community experience is vast and varied. He has been in the Marine Corps., educator, supervisor, 1st black disk Jockey in Springfield, Oh. He was a member of the following organizations: National, American and Ohio Association of Parliamentarians, Academy of Parliamentarian Procedure and Law, Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc, Central State University General Alumni Association, Clark Technical College Foundation, US of America-Great Lakes-Springfield and Clark County and Center Street Branches of YMCAs, United Way, Springfield Urban League, Board of Directors of Springfield Urban League and Ohio Sickle Cell and Associated Health Association, Access Center for Independent Living, Brain Injury Association of Ohio, Learning Association of Ohio, Ohio Dental Assistant Association, Member of the Comprehensive Study of the Springfield City Schools, Springfield Kiwanis Club, Selective Service System, and 32nd Degree Free and Accepted Masons-Prince Hall Affiliate. Presidents of the United States Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford awarded him the Certificate of Appreciation for Member of Selective Service Board #13. He was named Outstanding Alumni Brother of 1974 by Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc., Citizen of 1978 by Frontiers International Inc., Alumnus of 1978 by Central State University, Black and Non-White YMCA Layman of 1978, National Association for Equal Opportunity in High Education Presidential Citation of 1993 and YEttes YMCA Mothers Club Award for Service to Youth. Snookey is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty C. (Hardin) Reed; daughters Verna D. and Pamela C. Reed of Springfield and Maureen R. (Ron) Sewer of Santa Clarita, California. He is also survived by grandchildren Tony, Tara, Tori, and Teon of Santa Clarita, California and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Charles, and a sister Lillian. Funeral Service for Mr. Reed will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Visitation will be 9:00am with family present 10:00am until time of service which will be at 11:00am with Reverend Christopher Ferguson officiating. Internment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Porter-QuaIls Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel.
