I can't offer much more than what Rick Ford posted. About all I can add is that in 30 years of collecting WW1 items I've seen maybe 8 of them.

I'd recommend two posible avenues for data:

A. contact Hayes Otoupalik in Missoula, MT. He's been a WW1 collector for longer than I've been alive and wrote the 'Collectors Handbook'. He may well be able to fill in some of the gaps.

B. post a question about the medallion on the ASMIC website.
