Re: Negroes as Confederate Soldiers
We all know what is legal is not always what goes on. I have heard stories all my life of the blacks in our family who were on the side of the Confederacy. I myself intervied a Mr. Tom Walton prior to his passing, whose father was a slave in the Confederate Army. Did he get paid, I don't know. I know there was a photo of him in uniform. Some of his family 'ran North' only to begin starving in the streets because they could not find employment. They came back South and some went to war against the North because of the treatment they received up there. I am proud of both my white and black ancestors and have no respect for Mr. Abraham Lincoln who tried to walk both sides of the street so to speak. If you will check your records at one point he called in the black leaders prior to the Civil War and told them there was no place for them 'here' and that they would never be equal to the white men, so where did they want to go! Check your congressional records..
