In Response To: Re: Hamburg S.C. race riot of 1876 (WORKING LINK)
() Thanks for the information-especially the congressional link. I had posted a note awhile back for descendants of both sides about organizations. The descendants of Prince are rather muddled. There were a number of people during his lifetime who claimed descendancy, but most of the claims were never proven at the time. It is certain that he was charismatic with the ladies. He married his last wife when he was an older man, and she had no children. There were a number of liaisons, and potentially at least two other legal wives. His widow refers to one of them. While he didn't receive a pension, his last widow did apply and was granted a pension. Rivers was one of the first members of the 1st SC, later designated the 33rd Inf. Numerous reference to his abilities is made in both official and unofficial documents. He is one of the many Black soldiers whose contributions I am documenting in my current research.
