Edwards, James W. / "Co. A 39 [unreadable] / Born March 1, 1818 / Died Jan 2, 1885 / I have [unreadable] at last"
unit: 39th USCT (unconfirmed), Company A
notes: Possibly 39th USCT, but not yet confirmed.

P.F., Thank you so very much for this posting. The above item MAY help in the research of my EDWARDS ancestors.

My 2nd great-grandmother, Lydia Edwards, and her sister, Johanna Edwards, along with their brother, James Edwards were all born in Harrisburg, PA. Lydia and Johanna married brothers,William F. Adams (2nd great-grandfather) and Lewis Adams, Jr.. This new information and James Edwards service record could answer some long-standing questions.

What is interesting is the age of James Edwards, born in 1818, he would have been in his 40's while serving in the USCT. Another ancestor, Peter Allen, born in 1820, was also in his 40's while serving in the CW with the USCT.

I have Peter Allen's service record. He served with Co K of the 32nd USCT. Peter's wife preceeded him in death (1877) so there was no filing for a pension. Peter is buried in Barnett Cemetery, Shelby Co., Ohio.

Peter Allen and the James Edwards in my records were both living in Shelby Co., Ohio prior to their enlistment. James Edwards had a daughter named Lovina, the same name as Peter Allen's daughter, Lovina Allen Adams.

Could it be???
