Glad I could help. M1...means it is a first marriage. If this had been a 2nd or 3rd marriage it would say M2 or M3.

The Irving/Burt you will have to determine, when you hopefully find other documents. Maybe one or the other is a middle name, a nick name. It all depends on WHO is giving the info to the census taker, when they come to the home. The different spelling of names Mennis, Minnis, Minis, is common for all of us who research. Names are spelled how they sound..you have to keep that in mind as you search.

The family is living in Philadephia in 1910 and 1920, I am unable to read the whole street name...Mor??? Street (in 1910), you might look and see what you think. It is written along the left side of the census form near the names.

Have you been able to locate them in 1930? Was your Dad and your Aunt Matilda raised in Philly.

Did your Aunt Matilda or your Dad apply for a Social Security Card. Have you sent for their applicaitons.

Check and see if there are City Directories for Philadelphia in that time frame. It is another way to track folks inbetween the census years.

Thanks sooo much for your help. Knowing that Irving is also referred to as Burt is very helpful. I figured that he must have used another name b/c it is so difficult to find him. Also the Minnis surname can be spelled many different ways.

What does the number 1 after the M for married mean? I looked up the 1910 census form and see that they're street address should be listed there. That is an excellent bit of addl. info. Were they in Philadelphia on that census? Byrd is Mamie's maiden name.

Everything looked so hopeless to me but you have given me lots more to research. Thanks again.
