Discover Baltimore’s Hidden History in the Archives of the Afro American Newspapers

The Johns Hopkins University Center for Africana Studies and the Center for Educational Resources of the Sheridan Libraries invite applications for paid internships in African-American history through the Diaspora Pathways Archival Access Project. After completing a required introduction to archival methodology, students will work on-site at the Afro American Newspapers to inventory, arrange and describe archival collections and will create guides that will make collections freely accessible to researchers and community members via the web. The pay rate for this position is $11/hour for undergraduates; $13/hour> for graduate students. Interns may work from 20 up to 37 hours per week during the summer.
Internships will begin with training sessions during the first week of June, 2008.

Applications from graduate students and advanced undergraduate students at schools throughout the Baltimore Metropolitan area are encouraged. Applicants with a background in history, political science, and African-American/Africana Studies are especially encouraged to apply.
