Pews of Varying Colors in Historic Black Church

Does anyone know whether there is an historic African-American church in Philadelphia in which the pews are varying colors of brown (darker toward the back, lighter toward the front), to facilitate the sorting of worshippers by color? I recall visiting such a church in elementary school on a field trip, but now wonder whether the description and explanation we received was correct or tainted by racism. I see nothing regarding such pews in the St. Thomas AEC or Mother Bethel AME Church web sites.
