Re: Meeting David Wilson
In Response To: Re: Meeting David Wilson ()
I really in enjoyed your explanation;i have not met any white's who were related to the slaveholders of my ancestor's so I don't know. As a matter of fact i have not yet found "the last slaveholder".I have no evidence whatsoever that my ancestor William Mann was a slave but the statement made by my grandfather that his dad was born in slavery.
I have info again only oral that some of his,my grandfather's cousins passed over for white back in the late 19th century or early 20th.I do not know who they were as I had no info or let me say relationship with the vast family. Now I am learning of them,my grandfather had at least two brothers and two sisters.I have met tin persons two descendants from one of my grandfathers brother Alex's line. But Alex had 8-10 children and these bbranches are from one of Alex's son's Walter's descendants. My grandfather's other brother William I have met on the internet one of his line although he had about ten kids also and the descendants I met where from one of Williams granddaughter's. They however aare not as open or as friendly as the others. As to his sisters very little is known.I digress the point was I may have some cousins who are going for white today and may not even know that they were or are descendants of slaves. How might that be??
On the other hand i know of people who have found white relatives and for the mosy part the white relatives have been warm and genuine.
Finally I have heard that whites who may be related to blacks often are comfortable with that fact, maybe even a bit amused(that is find themselves to be a bit exotic).I think that is what I am trying to say.I am sure there are many people on this site whom have actually met distant relatives who are white and have real experiences that they can relate. My goal is to get people to exchange info and ideas that is how one grows.
