Using Genealogy Records - More Than Names/Dates

Have you got a glimpse of your medical conditions thru the research of your ancestors?

Twins in the family, specific medical conditions, illness, cause of death, physical characterisitcs, ethnicities, family involved in major epidemics and disasters. All of these items are found in the many types of records we collect on our families in our genealogical endeavors.

I was diagnosed as a Type II diabetic several years ago and have found diabetes to be somewhat 'common' among my ancestors. The North Carolina death certificates on Ancestry revealed four (4) family members dying in one week during the Flu epidemic of 1918. Military records from the Civil War forward indicate a substantial number of men over 6 feet tall. DNA testing has proved my heritage to be truly global in it's ethnicities. And there are many sets of twins in my maternal Adams lines from the early 1800's to this present day.

One's genealogy and family history can be quite revealing when you get beyond the names and dates using the records you probably already have in your files.

Examples of diabetes mellitius in the family.... maternal 2nd great-grandfather, William Adams, and maternal uncle, Harold Adams, grandson of William Adams.
