Re: Walden/Goins Families in North Carolina
In Response To: Re: Walden/Goins Families in North Carolina (Lyle)
Art, Lyle and Tabitha, Thanks so much for responding. I made a mistake in my email. Nancy Walden was my gggggrandmother and not my ggggrandmother. I'm not that old (smile). Lyle, I have some information concerning the mulatto William Goings who lived in Moore County. He is the one who became a millionaire in Texas and was a friend of Sam Houston. I can give you his information if you would like to have it. Art, I am in the process of reading Charles Chesnutt's book, The House Behind the Cedars. Since I am familiar with Cumberland County and Fayetteville, North Carolina, I know that Patesville is really Fayetteville. At the time of his writing, a large number of Waldens lived in the area. He refers to Molly or Mary Walden. According to the census, Polly (Mary) Walden also lived in the area. I know that his mother was from Sampson County and he refers to that county in the book. Maybe this is why some believe that he may have been related to the Waldens. Tabitha, I do have some information on the Waldens of Chatham County. I have a good friend who has additional information and will be sending it to me within a week or two. I will gladly share that with you. Sorry to address the three of you together. I am new at this and have not learned how to email each of you individually. Helena
