Re: STEWARTs of Cass County Mich-EVANS Connection?
In Response To: Re: STEWARTs of Cass County Michigan (E.P.Stewart)
Yours has suddenly become of interest to me because I have only recently just discovered some of the line of EVANS I'm researching who had lived in Granville Co.,NC, that of Thomas EVANS, b.1790 & Sally BASS,b.1800, had moved on to Calvin Twp., Cass Co.,Michigan. This was the Thomas EVANS whose parents were Morris EVANS & Liddy ANDERSON, whose children had settled mostly in Granville & Wake Co.,NC, many of them closely tied to the STEWART families of the area. Morris EVANS, son of Major EVANS,was out of Lunenburg/Mecklenburg Co. of Virginia. Most of Thomas & Sally's family first moved to Union Co.,Ohio, Van Wert Co.,Ohio, then on to Cass Co.,Mich. by 1900. Some of the CHAVIS family moved with them on their journeys,(several of them were also married into the family). Thomas & Sally's children who left Granville for Ohio were Polly, Morris H., Hilliard, Thomas S., Sally Ann, Wiley J., Melvina, & Nicholas Van Buren EVANS. Only his son, Major Lewis EVANS, stayed in North Carolina. Some of the names associated with this family are BRANDON/BRANDUM,CHAVIS/CHAVERS, COPELAND, HARRIS, MAYO/MAYHO, MITCHELL, PARKER, & PETTIFORD. Deloris
