(Jacky Ryckman) NC & VA. . The Gowans I have on my tree is a Nancy Gowans born 1814 NC and married to Fountain Lyles in 1839 in Rockingham County, NC. They were in Shebly/Ripley county, Indiana by 1850. I reviewed the 1850 census (my subject family is the Banks family) and went back to Rockingham County, NC- and found that the folks living next door to each other in Ripley County, Indiana- were also listed in the Rockingham cty, NC marriage info-- and they were bondsmen for each others marriages. 1850 census - Shelby/Ripley County
- Eliza-17-VA (name, Age, POB) - JAMES-13 NC-NC-NC (Name, Age, POB, Father POB, Mother POB) - Agnes-12 IN-NC-NC - Georgie Fern-8 IN-NC-NC - Anna Belle 7-IN-NC-NC - Nancy 1850- Next door to both Louisa Gowan & the Lyles were my Banks family
Henry Rickman born NC and his wife Celia- born VA lived next door to Fountain Lyles. There kids were Sarah, William, John, Polly, Eli, Fielding, Nancy, Averta. There were quite a few Gowan's in Ripley County 1850 Census. The main Rickmans I have on my tree were interesting enough not the above listed Rickmans- that I know of (I have not researched this yet). The Rickmans of Kansas were my grandmothers 1st cousins- and married into my Banks family in 1884 in Kansas. I only recently noticed that the Kansas Rickmans (From Tennessee) could possibly be related to the Rickmans of Indiana- when I started researching migration patterns and settlements of my Banks family. I will check our old reunion books and see what we have on the TN Rickmans that live in Kansas. The Rickmans use to have a reunion every couple of years in Newton, KS and so I will check with a cousin of mine to see if she has any of the old Rickman-Rossister reunion books. Regards
