Ameena, If you haven't already you might want to take a look at Melvin Ely's book Israel on the Appomattox - A Southern Experiment in Black Freedom from the 1790's Through the Civil War, the Evans family is mentioned. Although the book focuses on the individuals in the commuity named Israel Hill which was formed by those slaves who were freed by the will of Richard Randolph and finally received their freedom and land by 1810-1811, it gives in great detail the activities of those individuals in that county over a 80 year period before the general emancipation. There were already other free black families in the county, including the Evans' prior to the establishment of Israel Hill.Not sure if this is necessarily your Evans Family but I am sure there is some kind of connection.
