Hi Erin,
I also wanted to let you know that the CHEVES family that was in Wake County was most likely white. Although I've sometimes seen that spelling of the CHAVIS surname in some locations, the ones in Wake Co. I've found were not the same as the CHAVIS family, who are represented in that County more often with the spellings of CHAVIS, CHAVOS, CHAVOUS, CHAVES, and a couple of others.
