Just want to let people know that I am working on transcribing all of the 1802 Wake County tax lists on my website. Currently there are 3 districts up and an index of names (index lists the names and which district they are on). I have completed about 5 districts and will be adding the other 2 that are completed soon. Will be modifying index as I complete each district and post them to the website.

The list contains names of free blacks which is why am I posting here. Common names I see on the lists are Pettiford, Chavis (sometimes spelled Cheves), and Taborn. For lists that are up right now (Dillard District, Massey District, and White District) I see the following free blacks: James and Demcey Tabourn (White), Lewis and Laurence Pettiford (Massey), Valentine (as Vant) and Martin Locust (Massey), Irby and William Chavis (White). Also, there are a lot of other who I think may be free blacks, but don't have enough information to be sure (for instance, a bunch of Evans on the Massey list).
