... It is just so sad that our ancestors basically disappeared, or so it seems. I have to get use to the fact that I may not ever learn more about Abner Rickman or Mathew Shaffer, you would at least think that Mathew Shaffer would be in the Clemens cemetery or somewhere in Darke county, Ohio, since he was married to Nancy Clemens and there is a Clemens Cemetery. I plan on going to Darke County Ohio, this summer, maybe I will put the Clemens Cemetery on my to do list.

Matthew H. SCHAEFFER most likely is buried in CLEMENS Cemetery. It is just that his grave marker more than likely was no longer there by the time any cemetery readings were done. I can tell you from several cemetery readings and from personal observation that there is no grave stone/marker for Matthew H. SCHAEFFER in any of the three (3) cemeteries in the Greenville Settlement (ALEXANDER, BASS, CLEMENS). There would be no death or burial record since Ohio did not begin to keep death records until about 1867 and it was not required (until end of 1908). There appears to be no will or estate record. This was before newspaper obituaries were a regular item and generally only prominent individuals rated any "ink". Perhaps the only information regarding death or burial may be "hidden" away in some family Bible somewhere.
