Re: Thomas Lucas and Nathan Lucas
In Response To: Re: Thomas Lucas and Nathan Lucas ()
If you'd like to follow-up on Charles Lucas who stayed with John Peyton, perhaps this will help. The Adventures of My Grandfather, a book by John Lewis Peyton (you can find the e-book on line through Google and read for free) tells of the John Rowzee Peyton and Charles Lucas. Lucas was Peyton's manservant, a Jamaican, whose father was thought to be English and mother a native Maroon or Indian, with family and relatives in the Chotank settlement of Virginia. It appears from my follow-up that the Peyton's were in the King Co. area of VA. Children of this Charles Lucas included Charles Lucas Junior who died in 1850 and a daughter, Sarah Lucas Craig who died in 1865. I've written to the Peyton Society of VA, but rec'd no add'l information. Best of luck and please share if you learn more! Messages In This Thread |
