Re: Goins/Going and Ailstock families

Hello Robert,

As you are solving your "Goings" puzzle perhaps you can help me with one of mine. It seems as your lines are connecting to the families of eastern & southeastern Ohio. I have Goings interacting with my family lines in west central Ohio, Shelby County, to be specific.

Two Goings brothers, Joel & Wesley, bought land and helped establish what became the black settlement of Rumley, Ohio ca 1837.

We have solid information on the Goings descendants in the west central Ohio area from that point (1837) forward, but I am 'stumped' on the origins of Joel & Wesley. We have two Goings marriage records for Guernsey County, Ohio (eastern Ohio) from 1831.. Mary Goings-Mashoe Lett 24 Feb 1831 and Joel Goings-Elizabeth Cole 7 Nov 1831.

We suspect Joel & Wesley to be the son's of a Jason Goings, bca 1762, found in Paul Heinegg's work. Jason is the son of Luke Goings, the son of James Goings, the son of Michael Goings, the son of Thomas Goings.

My family connects to Rumley with my mother, her mother, grandmother & great-grandmother all being born either Anna, or Rumley in Shelby County, Ohio beginning in 1845.

I would be happy to help with the western Ohio Goings and their descendants, if you ever need it.

Best Wishes,

Art Thomas
