I concur with most of the above statements from everyone.

Louisiana and other southern states were that much into skin color and degree of mixed blood.People ofthe majority race wanted to keep their race pure as foolish as that may be. Now in the 21st century we researchers are stuck with all of these various words that were created to identify a person.

As far as phenotypical looks(physical looks) Iam not going to comment onthat because iwas not there during the time the census was made,nor was i the enumerator or the person giving the information to the census taker.

In my opinion a mulatto could have looked from dark skinned to light skinned.
