Hi I have two families that I'm currently researching from the Essex area the Payne family That started with William and Jane Payne on the 1870 census shows three children Caroline age 20,Robert age 12,and Lawrence Payne.The other family I'm researching is the Gray Family on the 1870 census is Katy Gray a single mother of eight all are families of Essex county Virginia.
