Thank you VKN!!! While looking at the AA Townsend's in the 1860 Census (nationwide) I ran across a large Townsend family in Putnam County, Indiana.

My paternal lines migrated from Edgecombe County, NC into Putnam County, IN during the early 1880's. Although there is probably no connection it was interesting to see AA's in Putnam County during that period (1860's). There were also a couple other AA families there in the 1860 Census.

I've read where the A.M.E. Church was a factor for the later migration, now to find out why the Townsends's were there 20 years or so earlier and if they do in fact 'hook' into any of my collateral lines.
