Re: Common Given Names
In Response To: Re: Common Given Names ()
Carla, I can only go back to 1870 with my Mathews and I found out their name was spelled Matthis in the 1870 and 1880 Census. My gg grandparents, Essex Mathews b 1829 m. Bessie Ivy b 1830 and resided in Duplin Co, NC. I am not sure where they were born, but its always NC in NC as birthplace. I don't know who his or her parents were. I did find them in Duplin County, Rose Hill and Warsaw, NC areas. I think the White Mathews came from England. We have not taken the DNA test for Mathews/Mathis/Matthis yet. We have only taken the West DNA test so far. I do know there are Mathews who married into our West/Barefoot family from Sampson Co and I not sure if there are any in Cumberland Co. Sorry I don't have any other information on them. Alice |
