I'm trying to trace my family roots and found my gr-great grandfather in an 1880 Va. census record. It sems that I have come to a dead stop. His name was Frank Shears and wife's name was Susan. 1880 Census shows him in Southampton/Newsome District. I did find out that he may have been born in Morehead City, NC and may have lived in Moyock, NC but I cannpt find a document to connect these together.
what kind of documents would offer more details prior to 1880. Could be spelling of the name maybe? The good news is that my mother remembers a lot and a lot of his grandchildren are living but family knowledge is sketchy.
