Re: AL ~ Mobile County~ Free Black
In Response To: Re: AL ~ Mobile County~ Free Black ()
Hello and thanks for responding, My Moultries came to Alabama from South Carolina, probably as slaves (I'm not sure). They resided in Dallas County, Alabama (predominantly), but a few years ago, I found a Freedmen's Bank Record for a 3g-aunt Louisa Moultrie, who was living in Mobile (between conception and St. Joseph). She worked as a Laundress for a white family whose surname was McCrae. But all of the brothers and sisters (16 siblings) and parents were in Dallas County, and all children, including Louisa, were born there. Her parents (Abram and Juno Moultrie) were both born (1820 and 1825 respectively) in South Carolina, but I'm not certain where (probably Charleston). Any insight you could give would be appreciated. I am trying to explore the Mobile Moultrie's link to Dallas. Sincerely,
