It is possible that he was Marcellus, but I cannot be sure. Based upon my oral history, I have reason to believe that my great grandfather was part of the migration from Fayetteville to Ohio. I also suspect that he was an orphan and took on the name of Patterson or Harris. I was told a long time ago that he had a sister who wound up in Kansas, which prompted me to research Mary Patterson Sampson's past in N.C. He was quite an activist when he arrived in Florida in 1867 or so. He was sheriff and voter registrar in Madison County and eventually was hanged.
