It has finally come to putting myself on an airbus from the West Coast to go to Virginia to do some hands on research. I plan to visit Richmond and Charlottesville; specifically the State Library in Richmond, the Albemarle County Historical Society and perhaps the University of Virginia. This is my short list. Is there any other place that I should consider as I put together a research and travel schedule? Do I need to make an appointment to use the University of Virginia's special collections, if I visit?
