() Hi Ron. It appears that the clerk wrote "Chavidrs -- what they call a no name, since there were no people in that area with that name. So you are left to guess what the clerk meant to write or should have written. Note that Eastern Tennessee was once part of North Carolina and was also populated by people from Virginia. The only family in Virginia or North Carolina during that period with a name beginning with CHAV was the Chavis family--written CHAVIS, CHAVIOUS, CHAVIUS, CHAVOS, CHAVERS, CHAVOUS, CHAVES, CHAVUS, CHAVIERS, etc. The clerk was spelling the name the way it sounded to him. Nancy's relatives may have lived in the same area, so I would look for someone in the area whose name began with CHAV.
