GreatGrandfather & GreatGrandmother

My GreatGrandfather was William Lowther (mother:Sarah Lowther from Africa) it is said he was always a free man, traveled, voted, and built homes, schools, and churches in the Dublin, Macon (and surrounding areas) of Georgia. I know he is buried along with his wife Amelia Harvard Lowther and several of their children in the Laurens Hill Baptist Church Cemetary, Dudley, Georgia. I am looking for some legal papers indicating that he was a freeman of color. We think that he was fathered by Samuel Lowther, a white attorney, who owned Lowther Hall, (Cobb county), Georgia. Lowther Hall burned down and ws never rebuilt and its owners moved to a different county.
There are still Lowther relatives living in the area of Dublin & Macon, GA. Amelia was born on the "Old Harvard Place" but was given to one of the daughters as a wedding present.

I have not been able to locate any information regarding the Harvard Plantation. Nor have I been able to find any slave records of Sarah (Williams mother)

I would like some informatiion as to what other path I should pursue.
We are planning a Lowther Family reunion in 2004.
Thank You
