Judicial Cases and Genealogy

Worth researching;

"Judicial Cases concerning American Slavery and the Negro"

Edited by Helen Tunnicliff Catterall

Volume 1: Cases from the Courts of England, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky
Volume 2: Cases from the Courts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennesse
Volume 3: Cases from the Courts of Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana
Volume 4: Cases from the Courts of New England, the Middle States, and the District of Columbia
Volume 5: Cases from the Courts of States north of Ohio and west of the Mississippi Rivers, Canada and Jamaica

These volumes cover a variety of court cases from theft, murder, wills and probate administration, Free Persons of Color and the list goes on. A valuable resources for anyone researching the period of slavery; Free Blacks; Slave Owners. Most information is in abtract form, therefore no complete transcript is available, however it is worth researching.

I was able to order the volumes via interlibrary loan, so be sure to check with your local library.
