Barbara, don't feel bad, I think we've all had those moments. But since I mostly use Ancestry.com for census search, I almost always use either wildcard searches, where all you need to do is put in the first 3 letters of a name plus an asterisk * or question mark ? or a Soundex search which produces similiarly sounded names. Sometimes Ancestry just misses them, and I go to Heritage Quest, and have better results. Either way, it's a good idea to try all kinds of different ways of spellings.
