I am a bit confused..There is a 12th column just past the last white female column on page 44, but nothing to show what the 12th column is for on that page..
On the 1st page, the 12th column, which appears to be in an open ledger book with a wide space between column 11 and 12 has to do with naturalization.. 13th column has to do with how many persons engaged in agriculture..
So how do we know what that 12th column number means on any page other than page 1?
I don't think it is a number for slaves or free colored, because I know that Joseph Ellison had several slaves, and I know that in earlier censuses, some of his brothers had free colored in the household...
I hope you can determine from the microfilm what the deal is..because it's so easy to confuse..In fact, until I read your post and went back and looked again, I did not realise I had miscounted the columns first, and thought there was a white female 45 and upward..so at least I got that corrected..
Please let me know what you find.
