Carla, In the past I know that one of the tools used to help in genealogical research are naming patterns. But, my experience with my Stith family shows that when it comes to African American families connecting with European families, this might not be the case. DNA testing helped to prove this. In my Stith family, I see Christian names that mirror those in the European families, but DNA says that my Stith line is African. So I will not in the future assume a physiological connection between families unless there is more proof than similar names. The same goes for surnames. I have another family line who carries the McKenzie surname that DNA says has no connection with that family. But, I connected with European families carrying the Phillips, Cantrell, Rackley, Brimm and Garrett surnames, to name a few. Linda BTW, I also have the Harris and Moore names in my family from the Sussex, Greensville and Southampton area. My Harris connection is to my Mason family who were supposedly manumitted or free born from the same area. I have some old Harris family photos as well. Messages In This Thread
