I read Paul's article and also Tim Hashaw's on the melungeons and their Angolan ancestry. One of the surnames of their descendants is "Tate". My Great Grandparents were named Tate. My great grandmother was Kitty Tate and her father's name was Neil Tate. According to an 1870 census of Noxubee Mississippi my great great grandfather Neil was a farmer. His parents were born (according to the census) in Virginia. I wonder if they to were descendants of the Angolans that were brought to Virginia during the slave trade. When I read Tim's article on the Melungeons and Paul's article I truly feel deep down in my soul that they were. How can I verify this. thanks
