The obituary of Campbell Maxwell lists his daughter Minnie's husband as Oliver Clemens. Oliver, born ca.1883 was a mystery to me until I finally learned how to use wildcards!
To make the story short, he was evidently the son of Elijah P. (b.ca1855) and Adeline Clemens. The 1910 census lists Elijah as a physician in Dayton. According to the 1880 census, Elijah was a teacher in Longtown and the census taker. He and Adeline also had a son named Tharwell A. b1877. A cousin, Katie R. Clemens lived with them. The family lived next to Rev. Charles W. and Elizabeth Clemens and the 1860 census shows Elijah as part of their household in Longtown. I assume that Elijah was their son.
I have not found any children in the household of Oliver and Minnie Clemens.
Thank you for sharing that information. It helps clear up something for me and makes another one those connections. I basically just needed the first name or occupation. I was fairly certain that Minnie P. MAXWELL was married to Oliver Howard CLEMENS, but his brother Thorvil Arthur CLEMENS, was also married to a Minnie. Had to be sure. I was thinking it could be the same Minnie. Thorvil and Minnie are listed in the 1910 census as having been married seven (7) years and no children born and no children living. Thorvil died in 1913. Oliver is single and living in his parents' household in 1910.
Oliver Howard CLEMENS was born 12-28-1880 in German Township, Darke County, Ohio to Elijah Patterson and Adeline RICE CLEMENS. As mentioned they had another child, Thorvil Arthur CLEMENS, born, 06-06-1878 in Darke County, Ohio.
Elijah Patterson CLEMENS was born 07-16-1854 in Darke County, Ohio to Charles W. and Elizabeth PATTERSON CLEMENS. He was an educator, politician, and physician.
Charles W. CLEMENS was born 02-22-1808 in Virginia to James and Sophia SELLERS CLEMENS.
