Re: Strange from northern VA to PA
In Response To: Re: Scroggins & Strange from northern VA ()
Since my last reply, I now have a bit more information about descendants of Reuben Strange of Winchester, VA. Several of his descendants migrated to PA, including a family headed by Civil War veteran William W. Strange, who later moved to Oberlin, OH where his three children William, Grace, and Samuel all attended Oberlin Academy and Oberlin College. William Sr. and his wife, Cassandra K. Wheeler, were married in Brownsville, Fayette County, PA. Related Strange families from Greenway, Clarke County, VA lived in Connellsville, Fayette County, PA and in Montclair, Essex County, NJ. Other African-American Strange families with VA roots lived in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Chambersburg. These families all appear to be related to AME minister Jacklin Strange of Winchester, VA (wife Hannah Weaver) who established and pastored many churches and died in Alexandria, VA. Unfortunately, I still haven't found any mention of the other surnames you asked about. Messages In This Thread |
