The Petition of Zachariah Dicks
Your petitioner show that he is possessed of a Black Negro Woman Slave known by the name of Patience about the age of twenty four years as of his own proper slaves, that the said slave has served him with unusual industry honesty and integrity, and hath by her labor diligence and care, greatly assisted him in maintaining and providing for his family and has rendered to him and [?] great and meritorious service. And here further showeth that she has at all times behaved herself peaceably honestly and well in every respect----
Your Petitioner wooed by humanity [?] and a sense of the beautiful services[?] received by the meritorious services of the said slave and being willing and desirous of a Emancipation to her therefore and as an encouragement to others to behave in a like manner; to emancipate and set her free pray that she may be liberated and set free and known hereafter by the name of Patience Brown.
