Re: AfriGeneas Free Persons of Color Forum

I have run across a couple of references of Free Blacks voluntarily enslaving themselves, specifically in Henry County VA sometime in the 1850's but can't find the specific case right now. However there are a number of examples in Guild's Black Laws of VA:

1856 Chapters 432-435
These are acts for the voluntary enslavement of Thomas Grayson, a FPOC, of Culpeper; of Simon and Martha, his wife, and Judy and Margaret, his daughters of Southampton; Lewis Williamson of Southampton; Araminta Frances and Dangerfield of Culpeper by court petitions.

There are a number of laws referring to free black voluntary enslavement.
