My grandmothers aunt, Florestine Ardoin,was the daughter of Cidalise Desmerais EDWARD(dau of Jean Baptiste DESMERAIS,a white creole & Marie Louise JACQUES, a Louisiana-born slave)my gg grandmother, fathered by an unknown white Ardoin during slavery. After the Civil War, My gg grandmother, Cidalise Desmerais married my gg grandfather, Benjamin Edward, a mixed-race farmer in St. Landry Parish. Florestine ARDOIN married Edmond JOUBERT JR in the 1880s at St. Landry Parish. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about the history of the JOUBERT family. I believe that they were free persons of color. But I need to know specifics.
