Will, thanks very much for sharing this very important information as it is relevant to my family. My Bolton family, identified as mulatto in 1850, intermarried with the Jeffers family and at times lived in the household of the Jeffers and Saucer families. Your information provides me with an understanding of the difficulties my ancestors must have faced in Mississippi during this period. With the disappearance of the three Bolton Brothers in Mississippi after 1859, and the scattering of their children throughout Texas and Louisiana (living in the homes of unrelated people) it is giving me some concern that something unpleasant may have happened to Uriah, Caleb, and Joshua Bolton.
