Re: Free Manleys of North Carolina
In Response To: Free Manleys of North Carolina ()

Ken, Do you know if Cullen Manley came to the Creek Nation from Tennessee. The Manleys were part of the Malungeon Town clan of Wilson County, TN. Members of this group married Adcock and Fletcher. Adcock and Fletcher families were found in the Creek Nation after the Creek War.

I have not been able to find anyone who can make the connection between the Creek families and the Malungeontown families, but the addition of Cullen Manley to the Creek mix raises interesting questions. The Malungeon Town people were described by a Tennessee editor as " an Indian like people with reddish or reddish brown skin and dead straight black hair". The Manleys can also be found in Melungeon literature under the name Menley.
