Re: Free Negroes, Frederick Co., VA

I think I may have found some of the Robinsons from the family mentioned in your post. While researching Sarah Robinson Thomas, I found her family (William C., wife, Maria, and sons (John) Willie and Phillip living in Ashtabula, Ohio in 1870. There was also an Eliza McPherson and it looks like a son Burgett McPherson, living with them. I was confused because the family had a net wealth of $1700 so soon after the Civil War. Also in Ashtabula, there is a John and Rebecca with sons Walter and George and also an Ezekiel, Florinda (it looks like) and children Benjamin, James and Martha and they like wise had a net worth (land and money) of over $600 each family. All of the adults mentioned are from Va. I know that William Charles moved to Leetsdale, PA by 1880. Daughter Sarah married my Rev. R. L. Thomas. William charles started the First Missionary Baptist Church in that city in 1889. I spoke with the cemetery where he was interred and they have that he was born in Winchester, Va sometime in 1841 and died February 20, 1903 (I think it was some kind of accident...trying to locate the article). I am curious to see if there are any other sources that may have additional information on the Robinsons from Winchester so I can determine if this is the same family group.
